Loss-of-Function-Mutation

Die Loss-of-Function-Mutation (deutsch: Funktionsverlust-Mutation) hat zur Folge, dass das Gen in seiner Funktion eingeschränkt wird.

Bei der SMA liegt im SMN1-Gen eine Loss-of-Function-Mutation vor, da anhand des veränderten SMN1-Gens kein funktionales SMN-Protein mehr hergestellt werden kann.
